- According to informed sources, the United Kingdom's new Prime Minister Burnham is not considering raising the current personal income tax exemption threshold of £12,570 (approximately $17,000). The aim is to send a signal of fiscal discipline to a bond market that remains skeptical.
- Although Burnham indicated earlier this week that he might raise the threshold, which would result in an effective tax cut for millions of workers, sources say this measure is not currently included in his initial policy plan to address the cost-of-living issue.
- The threshold has now been frozen for five years, and as inflation pushes wages higher, more and more UK residents have thus been drawn into the income tax net.
