AMD (AMD.US) steadily competes for the AI chip market! After expanding cooperation with Microsoft, it secures a multi-billion dollar deal with Anthropic
AMD and Anthropic announced on Wednesday that they have reached a multi-billion dollar chip and investment partnership agreement.
According to Zhihui Finance APP, AMD (AMD.US) and Anthropic announced on Wednesday that they have reached a multi-billion dollar chip and investment partnership agreement. According to the terms, Anthropic will begin deploying up to 2 GW (gigawatts) of AMD MI450 artificial intelligence accelerators in the first half of 2027. The developer of the Claude AI models will use AMD’s Helios rack-level solution, which includes the MI455X GPU, platforms featuring AMD EPYC Venice CPUs, Pensando networking solutions, and ROCm software. In addition, AMD stated that it will invest up to $5 billion in Anthropic in the future.
AMD Chair and CEO Lisa Su stated in a release: “We are excited to deepen our partnership with Anthropic and deploy AMD Helios at a gigawatt scale. This collaboration combines Anthropic’s leading position in cutting-edge AI with the full strength of AMD’s high-performance computing. Together, we will accelerate the large-scale adoption of artificial intelligence and promote Helios as a key platform for next-generation AI infrastructure.”
Anthropic co-founder and Chief Compute Officer Tom Brown said: “Access to compute resources is critical to keeping Claude at the forefront of AI and meeting customer needs. By working with AMD across the full stack, we are securing the compute we need and optimizing it for Claude model training and inference. Running across diversified hardware platforms allows us to match the most suitable hardware to different workloads.”
In addition, according to media reports citing informed sources, AMD is discussing providing financial support for Anthropic’s future data center leasing. Lisa Su revealed that AMD also signed an engineering collaboration agreement with Anthropic. Under the agreement, AMD will leverage Anthropic’s Claude AI models to enhance the performance of its chip technologies.
It is worth mentioning that AMD recently also expanded its chip partnership with Microsoft (MSFT.US). AMD announced that the company has broadened its collaboration with Microsoft to include AMD’s GPUs, CPUs, networking technology, and software ecosystem, and will further integrate related technologies on the Microsoft Azure platform. Microsoft will deploy AMD Helios rack-level solutions to provide advanced AI model inference capabilities for both Microsoft and its AI clients, and support Azure AI services. The two companies stated that Microsoft Azure will also add two new virtual machine (VM) series based on AMD EPYC CPUs, and scale up the deployment of Pensando Data Processing Units (DPUs).
AMD stated that the Helios solution integrates Instinct MI455X GPUs, AMD EPYC Venice CPUs, Pensando networking technology, and ROCm software into an open, unified rack-scale platform, purpose-built for large-scale AI training and inference workloads. Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella stated: “Through our collaboration with AMD, we are leveraging AMD Helios to expand Azure’s infrastructure portfolio, providing our customers with the performance, scale, and choice needed to build and run next-generation AI applications.”
