According to a report by S&P Global, shipping insurance costs in the Strait of Hormuz have surged as a new round of tanker attacks has made underwriters increasingly reluctant to provide coverage. Additional war risk premiums have risen from 1%-3% of vessel hull value a few weeks ago to 7.5%-10% currently, while some tanker operators are staying outside the Strait and are unwilling to risk passage. According to S&P, commercial activity remains limited, with only 10 vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, compared to more than 130 vessels daily before the outbreak of the Middle East war.
