  1. Industry insiders revealed that on Thursday, drones attacked two oil tankers—the HERA and the ALATAU—approaching the Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal on Russia's Black Sea coast, further increasing uncertainties over Kazakhstan's oil export prospects.
  2. This terminal handles more than 80% of Kazakhstan's oil exports, and authorities had already closed the facility earlier this week due to security concerns, forcing Kazakhstan to cut crude output. The latest attack means the restart timetable may be further delayed.
  3. Sources said the HERA was damaged and caught fire during the attack, while the ALATAU was undamaged but changed course. In recent days, five tankers near the terminal have come under attack. Satellite images show that as of Thursday morning, no tankers were docked at the CPC terminal near Novorossiysk port.
  4. From a supply perspective, the CPC terminal is a key hub for Kazakhstan’s crude exports. Continued attacks will lead to a forced reduction in the country’s output, increase expectations of a supply gap for Caspian crude, and provide additional risk premium support for international oil prices.
