According to Odaily, on Monday the São Paulo Consumer Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit against Tools for Humanity, the company behind World, and its custodian service provider Amazon AWS, alleging abuse in the collection of biometric data from consumers in São Paulo.

The lawsuit estimates that more than 400,000 people participated in World’s promotional activities in São Paulo. It requests the preservation of all data and metadata related to data collection and the suspension of any payments or benefits connected with biometric data collection until the assessment is complete.

The lawsuit seeks recognition that the relevant activities constitute abuse and demands payment of 240 million reais, approximately 47 million US dollars, as compensation for consumers' personal losses. Prosecutors said that World continued to issue crypto rewards through in-app transactions even after the National Data Protection Authority ordered a halt to such activities in February 2025.

The Iris Parliamentary Inquiry Commission report indicated that World focused its promotion on outlying and high-traffic areas, aiming to attract people facing socioeconomic challenges to submit biometric data in exchange for crypto rewards. Prosecutors also allege that consumers were not informed about the economic purpose of the project or the risks involved in processing and storing data through AWS servers.
