Headquartered in the UK, Windward Maritime Analytics posted satellite image analysis on social media on the 23rd, stating that two oil tankers near the Strait of Hormuz are suspected of leaking oil, and the resulting oil slick is drifting towards the coasts of Iran's Larak Island and Qeshm Island. The tanker involved on the east side is the “Kavomalias,” which caught fire after an attack near the Strait of Hormuz on the 20th. The analysis indicates that since the vessel was empty at the time, the leaked substance was likely ship fuel rather than crude oil or other cargo. The other vessel on the west side is an “dark ship,” whose identity remains unconfirmed due to its automatic identification system being turned off. According to satellite image analysis, Windward Maritime Analytics found that this ship has stayed in the same sea area since May this year, and suspected oil leak traces have been observed around the vessel.
