Barclays Bank pointed out that the coming week will be the busiest period of this earnings season in Europe, with around 40% of the companies listed in the STOXX 600 Index set to release their results. Key companies include LVMH Group, AstraZeneca, Shell, Airbus, and UBS.
Based on the financial results already announced and market estimates for the companies yet to report, European companies' second-quarter earnings are expected to grow by about 17.3%, marking the fastest growth rate since Q4 2022. However, this growth is mainly driven by the energy sector, benefiting from the surge in oil prices. Excluding the energy sector, earnings growth is more moderate, with institutional estimates at roughly 7.2%.
The eurozone will simultaneously release preliminary data on inflation and economic growth, which may influence the European Central Bank's decision on whether to raise rates again later this year. After raising rates in June, the ECB kept policy unchanged in July; subsequent data will help assess the extent to which energy costs are passed through to core inflation.
