(1) According to audio records from public maritime radio channels, a merchant vessel named "Disha" carrying 30 crew members was attacked by unidentified missiles near the eastern entrance of the Strait of Hormuz and issued a distress signal for emergency assistance. (2) The audio also captured a person purportedly from the US military repeatedly warning the merchant ship, stating it was "violating regulations" by heading toward Iran and informing the crew they had 15 minutes to evacuate the engine room, threatening to open fire on the engine compartment. (3) This incident occurred amid ongoing regional tensions, with shipping safety risks around the Strait of Hormuz sharply rising. This key waterway is a vital chokepoint for global oil transport, and any escalation of the conflict could disrupt the energy supply chain. (4) Recently, US forces have resumed maritime blockade operations targeting vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas, further increasing the compliance risk and security uncertainties for merchant ships transiting these waters. (5) If this attack is confirmed to be related to geopolitical rivalry, it would directly threaten international shipping security and could drive up shipping insurance premiums and crude oil transportation costs, thereby providing sentiment-based support for global energy prices.
