Bitcoin’s latest on-chain data shows that a growing share of the cryptocurrency’s supply is moving into older holding categories rather than returning to the market, even as the asset trades near $66,700.

Data from Alphractal and CryptoQuant show that coins are aging across multiple holding bands, suggesting that many investors have retained their positions through the current consolidation period.

An Alphractal chart tracking Bitcoin’s circulating supply by coin age through July 24, 2026, shows how ownership has changed across different holding periods. The visualization groups circulating Bitcoin by age bands ranging from less than 1 day to more than 10 years, while also adding to the asset’s historical price performance.

According to Joao Wedson , Bitcoin held for more than six months often remains in wallets for years. He stated that these longer-term holders tend to reduce their positions only after the market enters a stronger bullish phase, while shorter-term holders accumulate later and exit during bear market conditions.

The chart also shows that coins held for more than 5 years continue to account for a large share of the circulating supply, despite multiple market cycles. By comparison, younger age bands expand during periods of heavier trading activity before reducing as those coins mature into older holding categories.

CryptoQuant data shared by analyst Zakariya Sharif shows a similar pattern in Bitcoin’s Realized Cap across UTXO Age Bands. The chart measures realized capitalization by the length of time coins have remained unspent while tracking Bitcoin’s market price from 2021 through July 2026.

The data shows realized capitalization rising beyond $1.1 trillion as the 6-12 month age band expands and the 3-6 month category remains high. Sharif noted that this trend shows Bitcoin’s holder base is growing rather than shrinking, as coins acquired during the previous market phase continue to age rather than being sold immediately.

He also emphasized that growth within an age band does not necessarily indicate new purchases, as existing coins naturally move into older categories over time. However, he noted that supply maturing while Bitcoin consolidates below recent highs may indicate stronger holding behavior and reduced short-term selling pressure.
