(1) Japan is considering seeking foreign bank financing for natural gas power generation projects in the United States, which are part of Japan’s commitment to invest $550 billion in the US. The Japanese Ministry of Finance stated on the X platform that obtaining loans from foreign banks would help raise the foreign currency funds needed to implement this plan.(2) JPMorgan and other American banks are about to agree to provide financing under this investment framework, which forms part of an agreement between Japan and the US aimed at reducing tariffs imposed by the US on Japanese goods.(3) The Ministry of Finance did not disclose the names of the foreign lending institutions but said that the relevant financing would be offered alongside loans from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), and the export credit agency NEXI could provide guarantees for bank loans.
