(1) According to vessel tracking platform MarineTraffic, four liquefied natural gas vessels either owned by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) or on long-term charter with ADNOC switched off their position signals while anchored near the United Arab Emirates, east of the Strait of Hormuz, on July 24. These empty vessels are expected to enter the Persian Gulf and head to ADNOC's LNG export plant on Das Island for loading. (2) The vessels involved are Marigold LNG, Umm Al Ashtan, Mraweh, and Al Hamra. Since the Iran-related conflict broke out at the end of February, these ships have been responsible for LNG transport within the Persian Gulf. (3) Industry analysis indicates that switching off position signals is a standard practice during times of increased regional security tensions—tankers heading to Das Island for loading have done so previously. This latest action is considered a preventive measure for safety reasons rather than a response to an extraordinary event.
