AMD to Establish AI Research Center in South Korea to Build an Open-Source AI Infrastructure Ecosystem

Glonghui, July 27 | According to Yonhap News Agency, AMD (AMD.US) will establish an artificial intelligence research center in South Korea and build an open AI infrastructure ecosystem. The Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea stated on the 27th that it signed a memorandum of understanding on AI chip ecosystem cooperation with AMD in San Francisco on the 23rd. AMD plans to set up an AI Center of Excellence in South Korea to support technical cooperation, AI chip software development, computing technology validation, and joint research among South Korean enterprises, universities, and research institutions. It will also promote collaboration with domestic AI chip companies. The memorandum of understanding includes building a heterogeneous AI computing infrastructure, connecting AMD's CPUs and GPUs with domestic AI chips (NPUs) that have advantages in the inference field. Both parties also plan to establish an open AI computing ecosystem to encourage the joint participation of South Korean companies, covering storage, networks, servers, software, and other areas.
