Indonesian Rupiah Likely to Continue to Weaken -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/07/28 03:490349 GMT - The Indonesian rupiah is likely to continue to weaken in the coming weeks, as Bank Indonesia Gov. Perry Warjiyo's resignation has added uncertainty to the policy outlook, Commerzbank Research analysts say in a note. The central bank's independence and policy continuity will be in focus in the coming months, with markets closely monitoring the appointment of Warjiyo's permanent successor. If acting Gov. Destry Damayanti is appointed, it would likely be seen favorably by markets as preserving policy continuity and institutional credibility, they say. However, if Deputy Gov. Thomas Djiwandono, who is President Prabowo Subianto's nephew, is appointed, it could renew investors' concerns over BI's independence. The dollar rises 0.4% to 18,080 rupiah. (amanda.lee@wsj.com)
