Bloom Energy raised its earnings guidance for the current fiscal year as its second-quarter sales and profit climbed.
The provider of fuel-cell technology posted a profit of $196.3 million, or 62 cents a share, compared with a loss of $42.6 million, or 18 cents a share, a year earlier.
On an adjusted basis, earnings were 78 cents a share. Analysts polled by FactSet expected 41 cents.
Revenue more than doubled to $1.07 billion from $401.2 million in the same period a year earlier. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $826.1 million. The increase in sales was driven by a rise in product revenue to $935.4 million, the company said.
The stock was up over 11%, to $185.67, in after-hours trading Tuesday, making up most of the losses from regular trading session. The stock closed at $166.84.
Chief Executive KR Sridhar said that demand for Bloom's solutions has accelerated as customers that typically default to combustion technologies now choose Bloom as a superior power solution.
On a call with analysts, Sridhar said Bloom's backlog is growing at a faster pace than revenue as it secures customers that span U.S. hyperscalers, neoclouds, artificial-intelligence labs and colocation data-center operators.
For the full year, Bloom raised its guidance, projecting revenue between $3.9 billion and $4.2 billion and adjusted earnings per share between $2.55 and $2.85. Analysts are expecting revenue of $3.73 billion and adjusted earnings of $2.15 a share, according to FactSet.
