FOMC Decision, Fed Warsh's Remarks Could Spark Strengthening of Dollar to 164 Yen -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/07/29 07:130713 GMT - The FOMC's rate decision and Fed Chairman Warsh's remarks at his press conference could spark a strengthening of the dollar to 164 yen, SMBC's Hirofumi Suzuki says in an email. If this were to happen, the "likelihood of FX intervention appears significant, as Japanese financial authorities have stepped up their warnings," the chief FX strategist says. "In terms of timing, if the yen depreciates further following the BOJ's monetary policy meeting, that could provide a trigger for intervention," Suzuki adds. The dollar is 0.2% lower at 163.53 yen, LSEG data show. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
