Polymarket establishes independent research institute to fund academic research on prediction markets
Foresight News reported, according to Fortune Magazine, that the prediction market platform Polymarket has established the Polymarket Institute, a new institution dedicated to researching the information discovery and prediction mechanisms of prediction markets, fully funded by Polymarket, though the exact amount was not disclosed. The institute will launch a "Science Scholarship" program to support doctoral researchers in conducting research in related fields, with the first batch recruiting 12 researchers, each receiving a one-time grant of 10 thousand US dollars. To ensure research independence, researchers are prohibited from trading on platforms such as Polymarket during their tenure and retain the unconditional right to publish any research results (even if unfavorable to Polymarket). Funding will be provided through a university endowment model rather than commissioned research, so as to avoid Polymarket exerting editorial influence over the results.
