Tech giant Microsoft is set to report earnings today after the market close, and investors will be listening to hear whether the company expects to maintain the rapid growth at its cloud business, Azure.

-- BofA analysts said earlier this month that year-over-year growth of about 40% at Azure "is needed for the stock to work, while a miss could intensify concerns."

-- Another question is whether the company's capital expenditures will pick up speed. In its last quarterly earnings call, Microsoft said it expected roughly $190 billion in capex this calendar year, but the firm only spent about $30 billion in the first three months of the year.

-- Microsoft shares closed up 1.1% yesterday, but they are 19% lower so far this year.
