U.S. jet fuel demand, refinery production and overall stockpiles all cooled during the week ended Friday, according to Energy Information Administration data.

Domestic demand for jet fuel fell by 318,000 b/d to 1.828 million b/d, the EIA said Wednesday. Consumption has been vacillating around this level for the past several weeks.

Nationwide production of jet fuel tapered off by 70,000 b/d to 2.065 million b/d, marking its lowest operating pace since the week of May 15. Despite the dip, overall domestic output rates have consistently held above the 2 million b/d threshold since the week of April 17.

By region, the U.S. Midwest (PADD 2) saw the steepest decrease in production, falling by 47,000 b/d to 342,000 b/d, its thinnest position since the week of June 26. The U.S. Gulf Coast (PADD 3) saw output wane by 29,000 b/d to 1.157 million b/d, reaching its lowest output rate since the final week of May.

In contrast, West Coast (PADD 5) production rates ticked up by 4,000 b/d to 456,000 b/d, while the Rocky Mountain region (PADD 4) saw levels increase by 2,000 b/d to 37,000 b/d. The East Coast (PADD 1) was the only refining district to hold completely flat, with output marked at 73,000 b/d matching both the previous week's level and its year-ago standing.

Total jet fuel stockpiles lowered by 572,000 bbl over the week to 46.815 million bbl, logging the lowest inventory level seen since the week of June 19.

Despite the drawdown, total national inventories remain more than 3.4 million bbl higher than their year-ago position.

Regionally, inventory shifts were mixed.

PADD 3 stocks fell by 1.449 million bbl to 14.547 million bbl, notching the lowest regional stockpile since late May.

However, Gulf Coast stocks still remain over 1.2 million bbl above year-ago levels. PADD 2 stockpiles dropped by 571,000 bbl to 7.312 million bbl, marking the thinnest level for the Midwest since the week of July 3. PADD 5 inventories saw stockpiles drain slightly, falling by 38,000 b/d to 11.515 million bbl, the lowest level since the week of June 19.

The remainder of the country saw inventories build.

PADD 1 stocks rose by 1.421 million bbl to 12.734 million bbl, marking the deepest East Coast stockpile since August 2024.

Meanwhile, PADD 4 inventories built by 65,000 bbl to 707,000 bbl, which remains the smallest regional inventory footprint in the nation.
