U.S. Stock Indexes Strengthen on Fed Decision, Warsh Presser -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/07/29 19:111511 ET - U.S. stocks rise from early lows following the Fed's decision to leave rates unchanged. Chairman Kevin Warsh makes clear there is no "soft" view on the Fed's 2% inflation target in his press conference. He says that while the Fed didn't move today, "that's the beginning of the story, not the end of the story." Evercore ISI's Krishna Guha says in a note, "The decision also represents a choice to act in a way that is relatively more predictable and systematic in its response to incoming information rather than act in an unpredictable way in order to hammer home a point." The S&P 500 is little changed while the Nasdaq rises 0.3%, each had been down about 0.5% before the decision. DJIA trims its losses, but remains down 1.4%. (patrick.sheridan@wsj.com)
