Micron Stock Just Can't Get Going -- Even After Samsung's 1,800% Profit Surge -- Barrons.com

Micron stock just can't catch a break.
The world's largest memory-chip maker Samsung, rival to Micron, ticked all the boxes in its earnings Thursday -- a 1,814% year over year surge in operating profit, record revenue and remarks suggesting supply shortages will last through 2028.
Samsung's report really ought to be the catalyst for a rebound in memeoty stocks.
Yet Micron stock was still down around 1% ahead of the open Thursday. The shares are on a four-day losing streak through Wednesday, falling 25% over that period, and are down 36% in July.
It's not what you expect after bullish comments from Samsung's memory business chief Jaejune Kim.
"The supply constraints are expected to become even more severe in 2027 than 2026, reinforcing our view that the supply shortage will persist through 2028," Kim said during Samsung's earnings call.
Samsung stock also fell victim to the memory nerves, though, closing 0.7% lower in Korean trading after initially jumping around 8%.
Micron got hit Wednesday after SK Hynix's disappointing earnings, if it can't rise after Samsung's bumper results either then that will be a real blow for investors -- and hopes of a comeback.
