Malaysian Planters Likely to Meet Earnings Estimates in 2Q -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/07/31 02:060206 GMT - Second-quarter earnings across the Malaysian plantation sector are expected to broadly meet expectations despite weaker on-year fresh fruit bunch and crude palm oil output at IOI Corp. and TSH Resources, MBSB Research says in a note. Higher average CPO prices of about 4,519 ringgit a ton during the quarter should help cushion the impact of softer production, although elevated fertilizer costs are likely to keep production costs high, it says. However, downstream players continue to face higher freight and insurance costs amid heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, it adds. MBSB maintains a tactical positive rating on Malaysia's plantation sector, retains its 2026 average CPO price forecast of 4,300 a ton ringgit, citing emerging Super El Nino-related supply risks.
