Southern California Edison Says More Than 4,000 Eaton Fire Claims Submitted

Southern California Edison said more than 4,000 claims have been submitted to its voluntary Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program for the Eaton Fire, which hit the Los Angeles area in January 2025.

The electric utilities company said more than 2,400 claimants have been paid, totaling over $375 million as of July 29. It said offers totaling more than $775 million have been extended to nearly 5,500 claimants.

Claims are due by Nov. 30. Filing a claim or reviewing an offer does not waive a claimant's rights.

About half of all claims submitted have been for non-burn damage from smoke, soot or ash.

While state and local fire officials have not confirmed the cause of the blaze, SCE says it is likely that its equipment could be found to be associated with the ignition. The company has been investigating an idle power line near the Altadena neighborhood that may have become energized through induction.

The Eaton Fire was the largest of several deadly wildfires that halted the local economy in Los Angeles and displaced tens of thousands.

Shares were recently down about 5% at $74.71 in early Friday afternoon trading. Despite the intraday declines, the stock is up 43.59% year to date.
