(1) The Spanish Ministry of Finance has announced this week's government bond issuance plan, aiming to issue up to €6.5 billion in short-term Treasury bills on Tuesday, and up to €6 billion in bonds maturing in 2031, 2033, and 2036 on Thursday. (2) Additionally, up to €750 million in inflation-linked bonds maturing in 2039 will also be issued on Thursday. Overall, Spain’s financing plan this week includes short-term money market instruments, medium- and long-term fixed-rate bonds, and inflation-linked varieties. (3) This issuance schedule takes place against the backdrop of generally declining European bond yields due to falling oil prices, with lower market interest rates helping reduce financing costs. The market’s absorption will reflect changes in investor sentiment towards Spain’s credit status and Southern European sovereign bond risk appetite.
