Hiring in Canada Stronger Than Expected in July -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/08/07 13:000900 ET - The steadying of Canada's labor market continued into the summer. Employment in July rose by 75,100 for the month, stronger than the roughly 20,000 advance economists were looking for to bring gains over the last three months to 181,100. That reversed the weakness in the job market earlier in the year, pushing the unemployment rate down a third month running to 6.4%, the lowest in two years. Gains were split between full- and part-time work, and driven by the private sector and the self-employed. (robb.stewart@wsj.com; @RobbMStewart)
