Eurozone Government Bond Yields Rise Slightly Amid Middle East Uncertainty -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/08/10 07:200720 GMT - Yields on eurozone government bonds rise slightly amid uncertainty over U.S.-Iran negotiations to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This keeps oil prices elevated and maintains the prospect of the European Central Bank raising interest rates again, with eurozone money markets pricing an 81% chance of a rate increase in September, LSEG data show. A top Iranian official laid out tough demands for opening the Strait of Hormuz, while the United Arab Emirates said Iran launched a missile attack on one of its ships. Friday's weak U.S. jobs data and slight falls in U.S. Treasury yields temper gains in eurozone bond yields, however, with focus turning to Wednesday's U.S. inflation data. Ten-year German Bund yields rise 0.6 basis point to 3.137%, Tradeweb data show. (jessica.fleetham@wsj.com)

AI's Next Big Winners Emerging? PIMCO Avoids U.S. Stock Giants, Makes Heavy Bets on Asian "Pick-and-Shovel" Companies
PIMCO fund manager Sharef believes that as capital expenditures in AI continue to shift towards data centers and infrastructure, Asian supply chain companies—with their lower valuations and stronger profit growth—stand to benefit more directly from the AI construction cycle compared to the highly valued and increasingly indebted US tech giants. As a result, he underweights most large US tech stocks and instead is heavily invested in "picks-and-shovels" companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and TSMC.
