07:47 AM EDT, 08/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- IBM (IBM) said Monday it introduced a dual-architecture mainframe processor that allows businesses to use both IBM and Arm's (ARM) operating systems on future IBM Z and LinuxONE computers. The 2-nanometer chip features 11 cores running above 5.7 gigahertz and can process both Arm and IBM instructions at the same time on a single core, the company said. The hardware will let developers run Arm software on the company's mainframe systems while using its built-in security and data protection tools, IBM said. Bringing Arm applications to IBM mainframes and servers is part of the collaboration announced by the companies in April, according to a statement.
