Equifax: Total U.S. consumer debt rises 1.6% y/y to $18.23 trillion in July 2026

- Mortgage balances reached USD 13.49 trillion, keeping a 74% share of total consumer debt.
- Non-mortgage debt totaled USD 4.74 trillion; auto loans and leases were 36.5% of the category, student loans 27.1%.
- Auto loans and leases outstanding rose 3.3% to USD 1.73 trillion; severe delinquency (60+ days) eased to 1.46%.
- Bankcard balances climbed 3.8% to USD 1.14 trillion; utilization slipped to 20.4%, severe delinquency edged down to 2.7%.
