According to data released by the European Central Bank on Tuesday, the scale of financial institutions' overnight deposits reached approximately 200.6 trillion euros, a slight increase from the previous day, while usage of overnight lending facilities amounted to only 7 million euros during the same period.
The deposit volume has remained at a high level of over 2 trillion euros, reflecting an extremely ample liquidity situation within the euro system, with financial institutions preferring to deposit excess funds with the central bank rather than lending them out externally.
Usage of overnight lending facilities has persisted at a minimal level, indicating a generally abundant capital position in the banking system and no urgent need to obtain marginal liquidity from the central bank.
The current account balance stands at approximately 328.5 billion euros, essentially unchanged from the previous day, further confirming that the size of reserves in the current banking system is stable and ample.
The data suggests that the European Central Bank’s policy rate environment imposes limited constraints on financial institutions. Market focus remains on how subsequent balance sheet reduction and policy path adjustments may change the liquidity structure.
