- On Tuesday, the Federal Reserve Board held a closed-door meeting, with the market focusing on internal discussions regarding the policy path. On the same day, July consumer credit data will be released; the previous value was an increase of $1.42 billion. This data reflects residents’ willingness to leverage and consumption resilience.
- On Thursday, initial jobless claims will be published, with the previous value at 206,000 and continuing claims at 1.779 million. The same day’s August PPI month-on-month is expected to rise 0.4% (previously flat), while core PPI month-on-month is expected to grow 0.3% (previously up 0.2%).
- Also on Thursday, August existing home sales data will be announced, with an annualized forecast of 3.94 million units versus the previous 4.06 million units. The month-on-month figure is expected to fall 3.0% (previously down 1.7%). This data will gauge the degree of pressure on the real estate market under high interest rates.
- Friday’s CPI report is the most crucial data of the week. August CPI year-on-year is expected to grow 3.4%, flat with the previous value; core CPI year-on-year is forecast to grow 2.4%, compared to the previous 2.5%. Month-on-month, the overall CPI is predicted to rise 0.4% (previously up 0.1%).
- On Friday, the University of Michigan’s preliminary consumer sentiment will also be released, with a forecast of 52.3 compared to the previous 51.0. A modest rebound from the lows in this indicator would help ease market concerns about the outlook for consumption.
- Starting this Tuesday, the Federal Reserve will convene a policy meeting. Currently, the market prices in nearly equal probability for a rate hike or holding rates steady this week. The meeting will also update economic projections and the dot plot. The median rate forecast for 2026 was previously 3.8%, and for 2027, it was 3.6%.
- This week’s agenda also includes the G20 Energy Ministers Meeting, the U.S. Treasury International Capital Flow Data, and the World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report. The crude oil and grain markets will also face multiple event-driven developments.
