⑴ The Baltic Dry Bulk Freight Index edged up by approximately 0.3% on Tuesday to 3,584 points, after a 1.4% decline in the previous trading day, with the overall market in a pattern of choppy recovery. ⑵ The Capesize Index rebounded 0.4% to 6,313 points; these vessels primarily transport iron ore and coal, and the rebound indicates that seaborne demand for bulk commodities has received some buying support after a brief pullback. ⑶ The Supramax Index rose 0.7% to 1,693 points, marking it as the best-performing vessel type of the day and reflecting relatively robust demand for small- and medium-sized bulk cargo transport. ⑷ The Panamax Index, on the other hand, fell for the third consecutive trading day, dropping 0.7% to 2,414 points; this vessel type mainly carries coal and grain, and its continued weakness may suggest a slowdown in some agricultural and energy bulk cargo transport. ⑸ There is a clear divergence in the trends of various vessel types, market sentiment remains volatile, and it will be important to monitor the pace of global industrial raw material imports and shifts in grain trade flows for further impact on freight rate structures.

Corning signs a multi-billion dollar long-term fiber agreement with Verizon, as AI demand spills over from the chip layer to telecom operators.

Corning has signed a multibillion-dollar, decade-long fiber optic supply agreement with US telecom operator Verizon, under which it will provide more than 80 million miles of high-density fiber. The agreement will support both home broadband services and AI data center backbone networks. Previously, Corning had already secured major long-term contracts with Meta, Nvidia, Amazon, and others. The fiber demand from AI data centers is about 16 times higher than that from traditional switches, and combined with network upgrades by operators, this is driving structural growth in fiber demand.
