Substantial Buybacks Announcement Could Offer Temporary Relief to Long-End Treasurys -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/09/09 08:460846 GMT - Markets await the U.S. Treasury's communication on the size of the long-dated bonds buyback operation due to be announced on Wednesday, which could offer some temporary relief to long-dated Treasurys, Mizuho's Evelyne Gomez-Liechti says in a note. Treasury announced in August that purchases of long-dated bonds would at least double starting in September. A sizeable announcement could temporarily support long-end Treasurys, although the impact is unlikely to last given inflation concerns from high oil prices, Gomez-Liechti says. U.S. 30-year Treasury yields fall 1.4 basis points to last trade at 5.250% ahead of the announcement, Tradeweb data show. (miriam.mukuru@wsj.com)
