Market Chatter: OpenAI Tightens ChatGPT Ad Policy to Exclude Competing AI Products

06:05 AM EDT, 09/10/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft (MSFT)-backed OpenAI has told advertising partners it will no longer accept ads in ChatGPT for image- and audio-generation products that compete with its own offerings, The Information reported Thursday. According to the report, the change blindsided existing advertisers, including Adobe (ADBE), which had been running ads for Acrobat Studio and its Firefly image-generation product. OpenAI's changes affect ads for image and audio-generation products, but video advertising remained available, The Information said, citing Adobe's senior director for Americas Media, Doug Wyatt. OpenAI launched ChatGPT ads in the US in February and has since expanded the program to more than 40 countries, with advertising revenue reaching an annualized pace of $1 billion and projected at $2.4 billion for 2026, the report added.
