Consumer Sentiment Takes a Spill -- WSJ

Americans' economic mood has slid this month, according to the University of Michigan's survey.
The survey's initial September reading landed at 47.8, down from 51.7 in August. Amid high gasoline prices and a job market that many workers have found frustrating, the index has been cruising near record lows. If sustained in the final monthly reading, Friday's number would be the second lowest in the survey's history.
"Year-ahead expectations for both personal finances and business conditions plunged," said the survey's director, Joanne Hsu. "With a resurgence in fuel prices and trade tensions, consumers anticipate greater pressures on their pocketbooks to come."
