Sector Update: Tech

12:58 PM EDT, 09/11/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Tech stocks were higher Friday afternoon, with the State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rising 1.5% and the State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) adding 3.4%. The Philadelphia Semiconductor index climbed 2.2%. In corporate news, Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI is considering slowing development of advanced AI and hopes other AI companies do the same, Bloomberg reported. Separately, Microsoft plans to more than triple its global data center capacity to over 38 gigawatts in 2032, Bloomberg reported. Microsoft shares rose 0.4%.
