5 Altcoins to Buy as Rising Yields Threaten a Crypto Sell-Off—and Washington Prepares Its Next Liquidity Lifeline

  • Rising Treasury yields could continue weighing on crypto valuations by tightening broader financial conditions.
  • U.S. credit unions are testing blockchain applications involving stablecoins, identity, payments, compliance, and treasury management.
  • SOL, XRP, HYPE, ZEC, and SUI represent different blockchain sectors, giving the article a broader altcoin focus beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum.

As investors rethink their expectations for interest rates and liquidity, that’s placing a greater burden on risk assets such as cryptocurrencies as the Treasury yields rise. Meanwhile, innovations in the U.S. financial industry are bringing to light another trend: regulated institutions are taking a closer look at blockchain-based infrastructure for payments, identity, compliance, and treasury use. The contrast lies in that short-term price fluctuation of the crypto market is possible to be triggered by macroeconomic conditions, and long-term adoption is possible to grow via financial infrastructure. In this context, five altcoins, such as Solana (SOL), XRP (XRP), Hyperliquid (HYPE), Zcash (ZEC), and Sui (SUI), may hold a special place for investors given their unique applications in the payments, decentralized finance (DeFi), privacy, and fast blockchain space sectors.

The information states that CrossState and Metallicus have begun a pilot that includes 50 credit unions in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The initiative is looking into several potential applications, such as credit-union branded stablecoins, digital identity, speed payments, prevention of fraud, compliance automation, treasury management, and cross-border payments. Other potential avenues for transferring funds include a blockchain-based payment system or a stablecoin, but these would require further regulation, security, cost, and integration.

Solana Could Benefit From Faster Financial Applications

Solana has developed a position among high-throughput blockchain networks, with its ecosystem supporting decentralized finance, stablecoins, payments, and tokenized assets. If financial institutions increasingly test blockchain-based payment infrastructure, networks capable of processing transactions quickly could receive greater attention.

SOL remains exposed to broader market conditions, however. Rising yields can reduce demand for speculative assets, meaning technical momentum and liquidity conditions remain important factors for the token.

XRP Remains Focused on Payments

XRP continues to attract attention around blockchain-based payments and cross-border settlement. That makes it relevant to discussions about financial institutions exploring faster transaction systems.

The credit-union pilot does not establish direct adoption of XRP, but the broader focus on digital payments and cross-border transfers creates a market narrative that investors may continue monitoring.

Hyperliquid Expands the DeFi Angle

Hyperliquid represents a different part of the blockchain market through its focus on decentralized derivatives trading. Its relevance comes from the continued development of on-chain financial markets rather than traditional payment infrastructure.

If blockchain activity expands across multiple financial functions, decentralized trading platforms could remain an important segment of the broader ecosystem. HYPE, however, would still remain sensitive to market liquidity and trading activity.

Zcash Brings Privacy Into the Discussion

Zcash adds a privacy-focused angle to the list. Financial modernization increasingly involves digital identity, compliance, and secure transaction systems, making privacy technology an area worth watching.

ZEC’s investment case differs from payment and DeFi-focused tokens because its primary narrative centers on transaction privacy. Regulatory treatment and market demand will remain important considerations.

Sui Targets High-Speed Blockchain Activity

Sui is another high-throughput blockchain competing for activity across decentralized applications and financial use cases. Its architecture has attracted developers seeking faster blockchain infrastructure.

As stablecoins, tokenized assets, and digital financial services develop, SUI could benefit from increased activity across blockchain applications, although its performance will continue to depend on adoption, liquidity, and the wider crypto cycle.

Macro Pressure Meets Infrastructure Development

The current market presents two competing forces. Rising yields can pressure crypto valuations by tightening financial conditions, while institutional experiments with blockchain infrastructure point toward continued interest in digital financial systems.

For SOL, XRP, HYPE, ZEC, and SUI, that distinction matters. Their potential upside is not guaranteed, and each token carries different risks. Still, developments involving payments, decentralized markets, privacy, and blockchain infrastructure could keep these five altcoins on investors’ watchlists as the market evaluates its next direction.

Once the Federal Reserve starts the rate hike cycle, is "three consecutive hikes" a reasonable expectation?

BMO expects consecutive rate hikes in October and December, with a total of three increases potentially wiping out all rate cut gains for 2025. Vanguard believes "three consecutive hikes" is a reasonable starting point, but the actual number could be as high as six. There are historical exceptions: in 1997, the Federal Reserve raised rates only once and took no further action for the following 18 months. Meanwhile, trillion-dollar debt financing by AI giants, private credit exposure in the insurance industry, and the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield approaching 5% are the most dangerous pressure points in this rate hike cycle.

Goldman Sachs Also Changes Its Tune: The Fed Will Raise Interest Rates Next Week!

Goldman Sachs has shifted from predicting a rate hold to betting on a 25 basis point hike next week, stating that this change is not due to particularly bad inflation data—the August CPI was not perfect, but it wasn’t alarming either. The real key is that hawkish comments from Waller have already shaped market expectations: "If the inflation data isn’t perfect, there will be a rate hike." If the Federal Reserve backs down now, its credibility will suffer a serious blow and long-term interest rates could react sharply and immediately.
