US Dollar Rises Early Monday, Focus on FOMC Meeting This Week

07:43 AM EDT, 09/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar rose against its major trading partners early Monday as the focus turns to the Federal Open Market Committee's statement on Wednesday. The CME's FedWatch Tool currently shows an 86.5% chance for a 25-basis point rate increase to a range of 3.75% to 4.00% and a 13.5% chance of no change to the current 3.50% to 3.75%. There is no data on Monday's schedule. Tuesday's highlights include Empire State manufacturing data for September and Redbook same-store sales. Retail sales and import price data for August, services and home builder sentiment data for September, and business inventories data for July are due to be released on Wednesday before the FOMC meeting in the afternoon. Thursday's highlights include weekly jobless claims, housing starts data for August and the Philadelphia Federal Reserve's manufacturing report for September. Industrial production and leading indicators data for August are due to be released on Friday. A quick summary of foreign exchange activity heading into Monday: EUR/USD fell to 1.1546 from 1.1594 at the Friday US close and 1.1596 at the same time Friday morning. There are no Eurozone data on Monday's schedule, but European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde is due to speak at 11:15 am ET. The next European Central Bank meeting is scheduled for Oct. 29. GBP/USD fell to 1.3491 from 1.3526 at the Friday US close and 1.3507 at the same time Friday morning. There are no UK data on Monday's schedule. The next Bank of England meeting is scheduled for Thursday, when no change to the target rate is expected. USD/JPY rose to 154.4831 from 153.6782 at the Friday US close and 154.0411 at the same time Friday morning. Japanese industrial production declined in July, according to data released overnight. The next Bank of Japan meeting is scheduled for Thursday, when a 25-basis point rate increase is expected. USD/CAD rose to 1.3890 from 1.3866 at the Friday US close and 1.3859 at the same time Friday morning. Canadian consumer price data for August and Canadian manufacturing sales for July are due to be released at 8:30 am ET. The next Bank of Canada meeting is scheduled for Oct. 28.
