Hormuz Strait conference postponed, Iran accuses Saudi Arabia of making excuses

- Iran attributed the postponement of the Strait of Hormuz meeting to Saudi Arabia and accused Saudi Arabia of using the Yemen conflict as a false pretext for the delay. The meeting was originally scheduled for Monday, but Iran and Gulf countries agreed to postpone it without announcing a new date.
- The Omani Foreign Minister stated that the decision to postpone was made in order to reach a consensus. Oman remains committed to promoting dialogue that supports regional stability and lasting cooperation. Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials indicated that the postponement was a joint decision between Omani and Iranian authorities.
- The meeting was initially planned to discuss secure shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of the world’s oil and natural gas trade passes. Currently, the strait is blocked due to conflict. Iran has stated that the memorandum of understanding with Oman does not imply reopening the strait before the United States restores its commitments.
- The market is watching the prospects for navigation through the strait and the potential impact of regional tensions on energy transportation. The postponement of the meeting extends short-term uncertainty. It will be important to monitor whether a new meeting date is announced and if all parties are able to make progress on safe passage arrangements.
