SK hynix (SKHY.US) responds to rumors of joint chip manufacturing with Intel in the US: No final decision has been made yet
SK Hynix (SKHY.US) has denied rumors that it is in discussions with Intel (INTC.US) regarding the production of memory chips in the United States for the first time.
According to TechWeb Finance APP, on Wednesday, SK Hynix (SKHY.US) responded to rumors about manufacturing chips with Intel (INTC.US) in the US, stating that "nothing has been finalized yet." SK Hynix did not deny that discussions had taken place, but indicated that it is still evaluating various options to expand its production scale.
Previously, there were reports that SK Hynix was negotiating a deal with Intel, which, if successful, would mark the first time it manufactures memory chips in the US. One potential scenario is that SK Hynix would lease part of Intel's long-planned wafer fab facilities in Ohio; another option involves forming a joint venture with Intel and major cloud service providers eager to secure memory chip supplies.
In a statement, SK Hynix said the company is "reviewing various measures, including establishing additional production bases, to enhance the competitiveness of its memory business," but added, "no decision has been made at this stage."
SK Hynix also stated: "We would like to clarify that nothing has been finalized regarding any specific cooperative agreements mentioned in reports or the production of memory chips in the United States."
It is reported that Intel declined to comment on what it called "speculation," but added that the company continues to move forward with its investment in Ohio to prepare for the opening of the facility.
As of press time, pre-market on Wednesday in the US, Intel shares were up 2.8%, and SK Hynix was up 3.3%.
