A set of XRP Ledger account distribution screenshots, shared by X user @uptownsaul, has sparked widespread discussion in the XRP community. The data compares top account percentiles from January 30, 2024, to September 3, 2026, revealing notable shifts in both wallet distribution and required balances to rank among the network’s wealthiest holders.
XRP’s top 1% threshold drops 30% as wallet count surges past 8 million
Wallet growth and changing thresholds
In January 2024, the XRP Ledger recorded approximately 5.04 million accounts. By September 2026, this number had grown to around 8.11 million, an increase of over 60%. Despite this expansion, the amount of XRP needed to be considered among the top holders has declined across all major percentiles.
For instance, the top 0.01% percentile included 504 accounts in early 2024, each holding at least 5.9 million XRP. In 2026, the same percentile covered 812 accounts, but the minimum holding had fallen to 3.63 million XRP. Similarly, thresholds for the top 0.1% and 1% dropped from 427,751 XRP and 64,077 XRP in 2024 to 276,694 XRP and 44,509 XRP, respectively, in 2026.
The top 10% threshold, which was just over 3,333 XRP in January 2024, declined to approximately 2,120 XRP by September 2026. This shift means that an account holding 50,000 XRP, which previously did not qualify for the top 1%, now easily sits within that percentile.
| Top 0.01% | 504 | 5.9 million | 812 | 3.63 million |
| Top 0.1% | 5,037 | 427,751 | 8,113 | 276,694 |
| Top 1% | 50,370 | 64,077 | 81,127 | 44,509 |
| Top 10% | 503,704 | 3,333 | 811,264 | 2,120 |
Factors behind the shift
The rise in wallet numbers and the falling thresholds reflect more than just increased retail participation. Institutional players, exchanges, and custody services have also contributed by opening operational addresses. In addition, some users split their holdings across several wallets, and a portion of new addresses may remain inactive.
The XRP Ledger itself does not differentiate between a hobbyist’s account with 2,120 XRP and a large custodial address. Each wallet, regardless of its owner or purpose, is counted equally in these statistics.
As a result, while the top percentile groups have become more accessible by absolute XRP amount, this does not necessarily indicate wealth redistribution from whales to smaller holders. Instead, the expanding number of accounts has diluted the coin thresholds needed to rank among the highest categories.

Implications for XRP holders
These percentile changes highlight a growing and increasingly diverse user base for XRP. However, experts caution against interpreting this data as directly signaling shifts in network decentralization or imminent price action.
A lower threshold may suggest broader ownership, but it can also result from new custodians and operational wallets rather than organic retail growth. The underlying ledger data cannot distinguish between these different types of accounts or usage patterns.
In 2026, an account holding 50,000 XRP easily ranks in the top 1% of holders, while it fell short of this mark in 2024. This shift reflects a rapidly growing network and changing wallet demographics, rather than a redistribution of existing XRP wealth.
The widening of top percentile groups and the reduced entry requirement could signal more distribution among users, but do not automatically indicate the network has become more decentralized or that major holders have reduced their positions.
As the club of top holders continues to grow, the significance of joining it by XRP balance alone becomes less clear. What remains to be seen is how these new accounts will participate in and shape the future of the XRP ecosystem.
