Merck Says Ranibizumab Meets Primary Endpoint in Phase 2b/3 Study on Diabetic Macular Edema

07:18 AM EDT, 09/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Merck's (MRK) phase 2b/3 BRUNELLO trial of ranibizumab in adults with diabetic macular edema met its primary endpoint of mean change in best-corrected visual acuity from baseline to week 52, the company said Thursday. Both doses of ranibizumab evaluated in the trial demonstrated "non-inferiority" to active control ranibizumab for mean change from baseline in best-corrected visual acuity in the patients, Merck said. The doses of ranibizumab were also generally well tolerated, the company added. The BRUNELLO study is the first of two phase 2b/3 trials of ranibizumab and its results for the first year is set to be presented at an upcoming medical event, according to the statement.
