Birkenstock Wins Dutch Copyright Lawsuit Against Lidl Over Sandal Designs

10:20 AM EDT, 09/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Birkenstock (BIRK) said Thursday a Dutch court ruled in its favor in a copyright lawsuit against Lidl regarding unauthorized copies of its classic sandals. The court issued an injunction to stop Lidl from selling the copied footwear in the Netherlands or face a penalty of 5,000 euros ($5,686) per day for non-compliance, the company said. Lidl must also provide a detailed report of its sales and compensate Birkenstock for damages and legal expenses, it said. The judge determined that Lidl's products infringed on the copyright of the footbed design used in several of Birkenstock's popular models, Birkenstock said.
