US Dollar Advances to 10-Week High Against The Loonie as Bond Yields Extend Climb

02:13 PM EDT, 09/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar extended its gains against the Canadian currency on Thursday afternoon, climbing to the highest level in 10 weeks as US treasury bond yields continued to rise. The greenback was last seen up 0.3% at CA$1.4141, the highest level since mid-July. US 10-year and 30-year treasury bond yields topped 5% as traders reacted to unexpectedly strong US economic data that were released this week: US 10-year treasury bond yields rose near 5 basis points to 5.16% on Thursday, while US 30-year bonds were up 5 basis points to 5.452%. Comex gold futures for December edged fell 0.6% to $4,294.90 per ounce. West Texas Intermediate November futures benchmark jumped 3.7% to $95.57 per barrel. November Brent crude futures climbed 4% to $107.33 per barrel.
