Daily Roundup of Key US Economic Data for Sept. 25

02:48 PM EDT, 09/25/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The University of Michigan consumer sentiment index for September was revised higher to 48.1 from the preliminary estimate of 47.1 but was still below August's reading of 51.7. Michigan said that one-year inflation expectations soared to 4.6% from 4.0% in August and rose to 3.4% from 3.3% for the five-year horizon. The Kansas City Fed's services index rose to 0 in September from minus 3 in August, suggesting neither expansion nor contraction. Durable goods new orders held steady in August, while shipments fell by 0.2%. Excluding transportation, new orders were up 0.3%, and shipments rose by 0.6%. The Q3 GDP nowcast estimate from the St. Louis Fed is for a 3.24% gain, revised up from a 3.14% gain in the previous estimate, while the estimate from the Atlanta Fed is for a 5.0% gain, down slightly from the previous estimate of a 5.1% gain.
