05:57 AM EDT, 09/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Amprius Technologies (AMPX) won a grant of up to $75 million from the US Department of War to convert an existing domestic production line for electric vehicle batteries to high-energy density cells for unmanned aerial systems, the company said Monday. The grant is intended to establish "high-volume, commercially viable" manufacturing capacity in the US for advanced battery systems that will power advanced battery systems, Amprius said. Amprius will use the funds to reconfigure the existing production line, which is operated by a South Korean manufacturer, according to the statement. The project is estimated to cost about $100 million, including investments from Amprius and its South Korean partner, the company said. The new facility is targeted for completion in early 2028, with the capacity to produce 12 million Amprius cells annually and meet the domestic sourcing requirements of the National Defense Authorization Act, Amprius added.
