Google, Meta, OpenAI, Anthropic Set to Testify at NYC Council AI Hearing

02:35 PM EDT, 09/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google, Meta Platforms (META), OpenAI and Anthropic will provide testimony at an Oct. 5 New York City Council hearing on AI risks and potential regulation, Council Speaker Julie Menin said Monday. Meta agreed to participate voluntarily, while OpenAI, Google and Anthropic confirmed attendance after facing a subpoena warning, Menin's office said. The council issued a subpoena to Elon Musk's SpaceX (SPCX) after the company failed to respond to its inquiry. The hearing will convene all 51 council members to question the companies and outside experts about AI safety, consumer protection and possible legislative safeguards.
