Update: Burford Shares Rise After $1.4 Billion Potential Entitlement From Apple Patent Case

02:52 PM EDT, 09/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with the latest stock price movement in the headline and the first paragraph.) Burford Capital (BUR) shares rose nearly 10% in Monday trading after the company said a jury awarded $5.7 billion in damages to the plaintiff in a patent case involving Apple (AAPL), giving the company a potential entitlement of about $1.4 billion. Burford said its potential entitlement would be split roughly evenly between its balance sheet and investment funds. The company cautioned that the award could change during post-trial proceedings and appeals, and the case could face further review by the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Burford added that the verdict is not a final judgment or cash payment and its eventual recovery could be significantly lower or even a total loss. Apple did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment. Price: 3.99, Change: +0.35, Percent Change: +9.62
