⑴ Data from the South African Reserve Bank shows that foreign direct investment inflow reached 49.8 billion rand in the second quarter of 2026, the highest since the second quarter of 2023, and higher than the 20.3 billion rand in the first quarter. ⑵ The growth is attributed to debt financing obtained by an unnamed domestic telecommunications company from its non-resident parent company. ⑶ Meanwhile, securities investment recorded an outflow of 9 billion rand, reversing the previous period’s inflow of 9 billion rand, as foreign investors sold 34.2 billion rand in domestic stocks, partially offset by purchases of 25.1 billion rand in domestic bonds.
