Trump Says US-Canada Trade Deal Possible in Coming Weeks

06:20 AM EDT, 09/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- President Donald Trump said Monday he expects the United States to reach a trade deal with Canada in the coming weeks, adding he believes Canadian officials will contact him within the next three or four weeks. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, in comments broadcast on CBS News, that the US would "win everything" in the negotiations and predicted Canada would acknowledge that it had treated the US unfairly. "I think a deal will be made, but it's going to be a fair deal," said Trump. He also repeated his claim that Canada had treated the US "very unfairly" in their trade relationship. The two countries broke off trade negotiations last month after each accused the other of introducing unacceptable last-minute demands. The US imposed tariffs on specific goods on Aug. 22 and Canada responded with its own "dollar-for-dollar" levies. Trump subsequently introduced bans on some Canadian alcoholic beverages, dairy products and other imports, effective from Tuesday. "I think what's going to happen is over the next three or four weeks, they [Canada] come to us and say we need to get rid of the tariffs," said Trump on Monday. "We are going to win everything."
