06:48 AM EDT, 09/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with statements from Google and the European Commission throughout) Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google said Tuesday it is appealing two European Union orders requiring it to share search data and ensure effective interoperability with Android features relevant for artificial intelligence services. "We're appealing decisions that will force us to share people's private search history without sufficient anonymization and weaken vital security protections on Android," said Oliver Bethell, Google's senior director of competition. The company said that sharing such data could present cybersecurity risks and cause "irreversible harm to user privacy." "The Commission will defend its decisions in court," the European Commission said in an emailed statement to MT Newswires. "It should be stressed that the Commission's two specification decisions carefully consider the integrity and security with respect to the features involved, as well as ensuring the protection of the personal data of end users," the statement added. EU regulators had adopted the final decisions for both measures under the Digital Markets Act on July 16.
