US Dollar Continues to Strengthen Against the Loonie as Bond Yields Keep Climbing

01:50 PM EDT, 09/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar rose to the highest level since early-July against the Canadian currency on Tuesday afternoon, as US Treasury bond yields continued their ascent. The greenback was last seen up 0.2% at CA$1.4198. US 10-year treasury yields rose 4 basis points to 5.283%, the highest in more than two decades, on Tuesday, while US 30-year bonds were up 5.5 basis points to 5.607%, the highest level in more than 24 years. Comex gold futures for December advanced 0.3% to $4,178.90 per ounce. Oil prices retreated Tuesday afternoon. West Texas Intermediate November futures benchmark fell 2.4% to $90.38 per barrel. November Brent crude futures slipped 1.6% to $103.57 per barrel.
